This is my new favorite smoothie!
1-2 fresh mangos or one 10 oz frozen bag
5 0z of fresh baby spinach
5-6 frozen bananas
Water (depends on your desired consistency but I use about 16 oz)
I put the mangos and water in, blend well, then add the spinach, blend well and then the frozen bananas. Again I only have 10 year old blender so if you have a Vitamix or Blendtec this process may not be needed but whatever gets this blended well for you, enjoy the heaven afterwards!
Another Green Smoothie that I was very happy with the results:
1 lb bag frozen blueberries
5 oz bag of Spinach
Lots of deliciousness! I ate this yesterday know that I was going to “cheat”…I had a cheese pizza with my husband. He’s not vegan and will eat pizza here and there without me but this is the first time in a LONG time that I ate pizza especially with cheese. I’ve had a gluten free pizza with no cheese, just sauce and veggies. Prior going Vegan, it was my favorite from Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza and it was delicious. It was nice. I was wondering how my stomach would react but it wasn’t too bad, however my face might be showing it today. I always wonder if my favorite bloggers “cheat” or do they always eat perfectly? do you?
So this was my first attempt at a green smoothie and I have to say, it was a success and delicious!
1 lb Strawberries
1 cup of pineapple
5 oz of spinach
A little bit of water to blend, maybe 1/2 cup to a cup.
It made a little over 3 – 16 oz cups and I’m so full! I first blended the strawberries and pineapple with water, added the spinach once that was well blended and tasted it and wanted it a bit sweeter so I added 2 bananas, YUM!!! This wasn’t even in a high speed blender either and it was still delicious!
Nutridiary calculated this at 462 calories, 87% carbs, 5% fat and 8% protein.
So I am no longer on the Body Ecology diet…I did the initial phase for 4 months, cheating only rarely and just not feeling amazing results as promised. My skin was the same or sometimes worse, going to the bathroom wasn’t always easy, felt hungry and didn’t have the energy. My diet was randomly changed when a good friend sent me Douglas Graham’s book The 80/10/10 Diet and I’ve been feasting on fruit and raw veggies ever since! I saw results within the first few days. My skin is feeling and looking clearer and more glowing than it has in years and going to the bathroom is super easy and I feel full, too full! You are supposed to eat 2000-3000 calories a day!!! 80 % carbohydrates, 10% fat and 10% protein. I’ve also been using http://nutridiary.com/ to track my calories to make sure I’m getting enough as fruit & vegetables are low in calories, so it takes a lot to fill up because you aren’t eating fat. And there’s hardly any prep time! I’m feeling great and loving my new lifestyle, been trying new fruits and enjoying Strawberry season here in Florida!
I was mentally having issues with so much cooked food and not eating fruit that 80/10/10 made a lot of sense to me and since nothing else has worked I figured I’d give it a try. I LOVE fruit and eating raw really speaks to me. Especially the way he explains why we should eat this way, too much to write about here but definitely check out his website: http://foodnsport.com/. I think the only thing I’m now struggling with is feeding my baby raw. She is still breastfed, so obviously that’s raw but getting her the rest, we’ll see! I’ve been doing this for about a two weeks and “cheated” here and there on cooked food but really been watching my fat intake, as he says the combination of the sugar and fat is the real issue.
And as far as weight goes I’m actually trying not to lose weight but decrease my body fat and so far that has been successful as well. I’m hovering @ 110 lbs but I was at 26% body on my Tanita scale and this morning I was 23%! So I’m super happy about that and I’ve been doing yoga every morning trying to shape the rest of my body and really loving the results! I’m feeling less bloated, less gassy and overall great energy! Hopefully this continues as I’ll be hooked for life!
Eventually when I’m not in the initial phases of the BED diet then I would like to go back to being more on the high raw foods side than cooked, so in an effort to be more raw today I used the Coconut Cinnamon Muffins recipe batter, flattened it and put it in the dehydrator. I would love to give you a time amount but they only lasted @ 1 1/2 hours in the dehydrator on 105 degrees before I devoured them. That’s the beauty of a vegan recipe, nothing really needed to cook!
Since it is the holidays, one of my favorite indulgences prior to eating clean was Peppermint Bark. I loved it so much that I would made my own during Christmas and shared a little with friends, what you could pry out of my hands! But this year, I’m eating as clean as possible and needed that minty holiday feeling so I experimented with this Carob Coconut Blob recipe from Casey Lorraine’s website.
I don’t even get the food processor out and here are my tweaks: I just mush up one avocado, mix in 4 tbsp of raw cacao, 4 tsp of xylitol, 1/4 tsp of peppermint oil and 1 cup of coconut (I use shredded coconut that comes frozen that I thaw out not dried like her recipe). Then put in the freezer, wait an hour and I’m in Christmas heaven! Again this probably isn’t a BED approved recipe but my blood sugar wasn’t affected; it actually went down after eating them so I’m enjoying my indulgence! Hope you like them too!
